Why We Do Sound Healing With Instruments

I began sound healing almost a year and a half ago with just the bowls and a quiet room. People felt calmer, lighter, and many slept better after the sessions. I was curious, why does this work so well?

That curiosity led me to read more, and science does support it. Studies have shown that sound frequencies can lower stress, reduce anxiety, help release tension in the body, and support better sleep. It can shift the brain into slower waves, similar to meditation, allowing the mind to rest and the nervous system to reset. That’s what first pulled me deeper into this work.

How It Evolved Into Collaboration

During one session, a sitar player attended and said, “Why not try a session together?” So we did. And it changed the experience.

Since then, we’ve collaborated with sitar players, flute players, and other musicians. Each instrument brings a different emotion, the flute opens the breath, the sitar touches the mind and memories, and the bowls bring people back into the body.

It took us practice, trial, and a lot of listening to get the flow right, when to build up, when to keep silence, and how to guide people without saying much at all. But slowly, it created its own magic.

How Sound Healing Works (In Simple Terms)

Sound healing works through vibration and frequency. Everything in the body has its own natural rhythm: the heart, the breath, the brain waves. When life, stress, or emotions throw these rhythms off balance, sound helps us find a calmer internal pace again.

  • Lower stress and anxiety
  • Improves quality of sleep
  • Helps the body relax deeply
  • Can release stored emotions
  • Supports meditation without needing effort
  • Brings the mind into alpha and theta states (where healing and creativity happen)

Many people say sound healing feels like meditation, but easier, because you don’t need to “do” anything. The sound does the work, and the body responds naturally.

How We Hold the Session at Aavya

We start with intention, something simple like peace, forgiveness, or opening the heart.

Evening time is perfect because the energy is calmer and easier to settle into.

Along with sound, I work with Reiki energy, which supports emotional release and grounding. Together, they complement each other — the sound creates space, and Reiki guides the energy. We planned these to be one-hour sessions, but most often they become 90 minutes, because the process needs its own time.

What Makes It Special

Over the last year, these sessions have become one of our most loved experiences at Aavya. Collaborating with different musicians keeps it fresh, unpredictable, and alive. Every session feels different because every group brings a different energy. What began as a simple offering has grown into something much deeper, a combination of sound, intention, energy, and human connection.

And we hope to carry this forward for many, many years.

Because when people rest, breathe, release, and feel a little lighter — that’s the real magic of sound healing!!
