How Aavya Got Its Name
The story behind the name — and the morning that changed everything.
I still remember that morning clearly.
It was cold — one of those crisp February mornings in Tapovan, Rishikesh. The kind where the air is sharp, but if you find the sun just right, it feels like a warm blanket.
That moment would quietly mark the beginning of Aavya.
We just didn't know it yet.
A Space Without a Name
I was sitting in what would later become our yoga studio.
The space was still raw.
Unfinished walls.
No identity yet.
And no name.
I was running through possibilities in my head.
Trying to name this place.
But everything felt wrong.
Too cliché.
Too forced.
Nothing felt like this space.
The Moment That Changed Everything
Raja — my friend and the landlord of the land — was sitting with me.
I told him:
"The sun feels so good here."
He smiled and said:
"That's because this is the highest point in Tapovan. You see the first rays of the sun here."
Something about that stayed with me.
The Search for a Word
I asked him:
"What do you call the first rays of the sun in Sanskrit?"
He picked up his phone.
Searched for a moment.
Then looked up and said:
"Aavya."
The Name That Chose Us
The moment he said it…
We both just looked at each other.
And knew.
That was it.
No brainstorming.
No second-guessing.
It felt like the name had been waiting for us all along.
More Than Just a Name
Since then, the name has done more than label the place.
It has shaped it.
Aavya — meaning the first rays of the sun — lives in the space itself.
You can feel it:
In the way the morning light enters the rooms.
In how guests arrive tired and leave a little lighter.
In the pace of everything — slow, natural, unfolding.
Like a sunrise.
How the Name Became the Identity
That one word quietly influenced everything.
It inspired our sun-spiral logo —
a symbol of radiance, new beginnings, and gentle strength.
It shaped our architecture —
arched windows, soft curves, flowing spaces.
Nothing abrupt.
Everything intentional.
The Energy We Follow
Even the way we host people follows the same rhythm.
Soft.
Spacious.
Unhurried.
Like early morning light.
We didn't try to live up to the name.
We let the name guide us.
Because it was never just a name.
It was the first gift this space gave us.
If you're curious about what Aavya feels like today, come experience the first light for yourself.
Come experience the first light for yourself.
